The actual games we play!

Image
One of the hardest things when playing a game can be to deal with the winners of the game, those who lost the game and the interaction between them. Taunting and showing off a win does seem to be a common rule amongst siblings and consequently dealing with the emotions and disappointment of losing can be hard to manage – we were that family that occasionally had a monopoly board thrown and we have family friends who no longer risk playing the game! I don’t have the answer except that the only way for children to learn to deal with these emotions is by experiencing them in a safe space and what better space than at home! I recently saw a short video which I shared to our Capture the Kindness page which I hope this link will take you to. The Games We Play

One of the sets of tic-tac-toe at The Hub.    All my life I have loved playing games whether board games, card games, team games or word games. I Spy and car bingo would keep us entertained in the car while pencil and paper could entertain us for hours at home. I can remember my father teaching me noughts and crosses when I was young. (also known as tic-tac-toe or three in a row.) Over time, it helped develop my critical thinking as I identified the different tricks of the game . It is a great favourite with my children too! My sister in England made some amazing crochet sets for us and we have 2 of them at The Honeycomb Hub for anyone to use! Learning draghts  Games are such a fun way to spend time with family and friends and they are perfect for almost any age. They help to develop basic social skills such as turn taking as well as losing or winning graciously . (As well as how much importance to actually place on winning or losing!) Many games have a mathematical eleme

A Yoga Adventure

We have a secret to tell you. Here at The Honeycomb Hub, we have our very own Pied Piper. Luckily, she uses her power for good and, thanks to already having her own brood at home, she is quite happy to leave the children here at the end of a session though there are quite a few who have asked to go home with her (my own son included!). And tears when she leaves are not uncommon.  Our Pied Piper’s name is Kirsty Downey and she is our incredible yoga instructor. Kirsty teaches yoga 5 times a week at The Honeycomb Hub yet is also in demand teaching at a local school and nursery too. Whilst adults enjoy a Vinyasa flow style yoga suitable for all levels incorporating pranayama, strength work and improving flexibility, children get to enjoy a yoga adventure in their Yogabees session. Yogabees provides mindfulness and relaxation on an interactive adventure which builds strength, balance and confidence. It incorporates moves that cross the mid-line improving bilateral co-ordinati

We know from experience how difficult it is to find time for yourself for a few minutes let alone enough time to paint your nails and let them dry. We also know how hard parents work both at their work place and taking care of their family and that everyone needs some time for themselves too. Here at the Hub we try to help with that in a number of different ways. We have Tiny Town where children can be absorbed in imaginative play for hours and parents can both join in their play or sit back and relax with a free tea or coffee or splash out on a slice of cake or a glass of home-made lemonade. We have a bacon roll and filter coffee special each Saturday morning! Every Saturday we host ‘ Who Let The Dads out? ’ where we encourage Dads to take their children out for the morning. We help by having a range of games and activities for Dads to play with their children as well as having a special of bacon rolls and filter coffee available. There is also Rugbees held at The Bull &
