Making Hearts Smile

Image
I had a whole other blog post planned for this week but I have decided to bump that to next week (woohoo, ahead of the game for once!) Instead, I wanted to share a poem I read to the boys this evening and then tell you about a few lovely moments we have had at the Honeycomb Hub this week.  We read to the boys at bedtime each night, and tonight was a ‘Each Peach Pear Plum’ by Janet & Allan Ahlberg, a chapter of ‘Martin the Warrior’ by Brian Jacques and a few poems by A A Milne. The poem that made me think was Happiness. The simplicity of the moment that made John happy struck me and I thought how often are we chasing fleeting rainbows of happiness and not being aware of those small, individual moments that make our hearts smile. So let me share with you a few of the fantastic moments at the Hub this week when our wonderful community made our hearts smile. We had children run in so eager to come and play. Though I’m sure the parents weren’t so ha

Afternoon activities at The Hub

The Winter term has begun and many of you are looking for different activities for your children to keep them entertained throughout the long afternoons. At the Honeycomb Hub we offer different activities each day too, as well as our Tiny Town being open each day 9am-5pm Monday through Saturday for imaginative play (P50 for 1.5 hours of play). The majority of our activities run a drop in option for P50 (except for the courses) though Glee Club and Hip Hop have a cheaper, termly fee also. Read on for a breakdown of the different activities we offer each week. Crossing the Mid-line: (Primary, Mondays, 3pm, a 6 week course starting 21 st May, booking only) Quite possibly the only handwriting club where you will never pick up a pencil! Combining fitness, sensory play and specific movements designed to cross the mid-line to develop a child's body awareness as well as the gross & fine motor skills and muscular strength required for handwriting.  Yogabees: (Mond

Bump into Mums

Pregnant women, new mothers, mothers of toddlers and teens all have questions. Questions that whirl round and round our heads and keep us awake at night when we could really do with the extra sleep. Questions such as “is it normal that he wakes up to feed every other hour” “why won’t she eat anything but chicken nuggets?” “what activities should I do with my child?”. Unfortunately, as my own mother tells me, the questions and worrying don’t stop even when they are grown, moved away and have children of their own! Photograph by the amazing Rachel Bell of Annie Bell Photography https://www.facebook.com/anniebellphotography/   When I was first pregnant, I was very fortunate to be a part of a new Mum’s group and together we figured out how to become Mums (and even became my best friends even if we do now span 3 continents!) We would meet up weekly to share stories and ask questions of each other- and we still do even though our eldest children are all now at school – the question

Who let the Dads out?

I know, you are going to have the song stuck in your head all day now! However, who let the Dads out is our call to Dads, Uncles and all Father figures to take your children out for a Saturday morning to play. Not only can this give the ladies of the house a bit of time for themselves (which will earn the men some major brownie points) it is also important for both the Dad and the child. We couldn't put it better ourselves. Thank you 'www.thatswhatchesaid.net' At our Rugbees classes on a Saturday morning, though many families come as a whole, it is commonly the Dads who join in with the session with their children, supporting them in some of the activities and getting stuck into many of the games. However, in the between times they have the chance to chat to other Dads and afterwards, they can sit back in the play area at the Bull & Bush, watching their children play while they have a coffee and a bacon roll. There is a fantastic family vibe, sharing of thou
